AAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! I just can't seem to get enough of this rampaging record. TEARGAS are a unit out of Brisbane Australia and they are ready to annihilate!
Listening to this record you definitely know what these guys love, and they let it show. BASTARD and DEATH SIDE certainly come to mind. But this is not just fans of Burning Spirits playing what they love. They take their obvious passion for Japanese hardcore but make it their own with utterly bombastic songwriting that shows refined skills indeed. Throwing in a little kång such as TOTALITÄR and maybe some modern hardcore too just to make it interesting.
The drums are a powerful force throughout this record, blasting their way forward and laying the foundation for a ton of intensity coming from the guitars and bass. But my favorite part of this is the super catchy metallic and slightly melodic back-and-forth leads. Charging riffs...yup, cool thought-provoking lyrics...yeah, killer production...yep, vocals that seem to spit clear, pure acidity...uh, yep, its all good here.
This is some essential hardcore punk and should make my top ten LP's for 2011. I am kicking myself now cause they played Chaos in Tejas this year but I somehow missed them. It looks like TEARGAS have been around since at least 2008 when they released a much praised demo cassette which was then followed up by a 7" on Hardcore Victim in 2010. Way of All Flesh is also Hardcore Victim, a label run by Yeap from PISSCHRIST.
This LP does clock in at only about 20 minutes which left me wanting more, so I am off to try and find one of those 7 inches.
