Fuck, I caught Ramlord playing a show with Ramming Speed, Hot Graves and Phantom Glue at a venue in Cambridge about a month ago and they fucking killed it!
Back when we started this rag, Josh gave their "Stench Of Fallacy" cassette a review which caught my attention; so, after that and being given the opportunity to see them live, I was really stoked when this album dropped into my lap.
First off, let me just say Ramlord is an almost unclassifiable amalgamation of so many sounds; let's just give 'em a genre of blackened thrash crust punk for now (even though they coined the term Blackstench). Their sound seemingly incorporates everything from Deviated Instinct to Deathhammer; it's brutal and fast crunch while being chock full of surprising riffs and killer fucking changes; switching from a sludgy tempo to thundering pit fueling blast beat on a dime! Don't believe me? check out the second track Weakness and listen to it all the way through, that riff at the end is fucking killer!!
"Crippled Minds, Sundered Wisdom", just the title alone is tits, but as is so common nowadays, you get an album, it's got some sick artwork going for it, tight title, but in the end the album is about as epic as a case of diarrhea after a night of boozin' in Tijuana...not so here! This shit is dark, heavy, mind numbingly fast but with many sweet curveballs to keep things interesting; the song you're listening to at the end is not the same song you started off with, and I love the complexity which evolves from what, at first, you are beguiled into thinking is simple!
So in the end, as is the case with so many of the fine newschool outfits hitting the scene today, this will appeal to everyone across the board; from the down and out Crust punk working the cranberry harvest to the wild eyed Hesher who scares the old folks...it's solid.
The production on this is raw, but damn aren't all the best albums? If more people picked up on Ramlord, I'd love to see what they'd put out once they could get some maestro to help them really highlight their individual talents.
So, summing up; these guys are badass!
