It's with really deep sadness we report that Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with "early stage" lymphoma, The band's Facebook page broke the news to the world last Monday, needless to say it caused much sorrow among fans who had been, only weeks before, elated to have found out that the original lineup of Ozzy, Tony, Geezer and Bill were writing and recording their first album together in 33 years.
Tony certainly has a battle on his hands, anyone who has suffered from, or seen loved ones confront cancer, knows it is no small matter...but they also know it can be beat. We wish Tony all the best and to see him fully recovered and ripping in typical Iommi fashion soon!
UPDATE: Tony just posted the following:
"My fans, friends & colleagues -
I just want to say how overwhelmed I am with all your messages of support, thank you so much. Well it's not what I wanted for Christmas, that's for sure, but now I can't wait for the test results to come in and get going with the treatment.
It's really good that the guys are coming over so that we can continue working on the album as things are going great in the studio.Well, not much else to say at this time, so thanks again.
Bless you all,
Finally! The 7" Black Sands Record from Appalachian Terror Unit is a go! Profane Existence , one of the most righteous of DIY Punk, Doom, Crust and Metal label/distros on the planet, put out this statement on their blog:
"As many of you know the release of Appalachian Terror Unit's Black Sands 7″ was delayed due to the use of a sample. After months of fruitless e-mails, unreturned phone calls, several re-mixes and re-masters we are excited to say that this will record will finally hit the streets early 2012. This is an amazing record. A.T.U. at their best! We are excited to finally share it with the rest of the world. As a "THANK YOU" to everyone who has been patiently waiting... and a big "FUCK YOU" to the powers that be we uploaded a version of the song they didn't want you to hear. Enjoy!"
YES! Profane Existence and ATU has been super kind to allow us to stream "End Of Complacency" right here! And, not only that, but in typical underground, anti-capitalist, anti-fascist, "it's about the music" fashion...they are allowing YOU to download it as well!! Remember, as we always say, when someone hooks you up with free tunes, show 'em your support anyway you can...buy an album, go to shows, buy a t-shirt at the band's merch stand...or, at the very least, git together with 'em on the social machines to give them a like and spread the word!
Speaking of Appalachian Terror Unit, and for those locals in the know, they are doin' a show at the "6th Street House" in Huntington, West Virginia on Saturday, January 21st with Philly's Mindless Attack and alternapunks Living Saints (check their "name yer price" S/T album below)! Donations for the bands ($5 suggested) It begins at 8p.m. and ends at 11...don't miss it! BE SURE TO RESPECT THE HOUSE RULES!
Alright, not long ago we reviewed Swedish DIY shredders Another Hell's "Drowning In Dirt" EP (which they gave away free to the public), and, as we have said here before, they are about to release their debut LP here really soon, but they have just one little thing to do before unleashing it on the world...they need a title, and the band is ASKING YOU FOR HELP! That's right! Another Hell, as a tribute to the countless fans who've showed 'em love, is running a contest beginning tomorrow, Friday 13th (oooh eeee ooooh) and ending on the 20th to find the best suggestion for the title of the album.
Now, that doesn't mean they will actually use the title...but who knows. There are several prizes to be given out...for exact details on how to enter... hurry on over to Another Hell's website!

For all you 3 Inches of Blood fans, it has been confirmed, their 5th studio album "Long Live Heavy Metal" is coming down the pipeline and will be ready for you to pick up on the 27th of March via Century Media Records. This album hails the return of producer and engineer Terry "Sho" Murray with 3 Inches of Blood...he had worked previously with the band on their famous 7" "Anthems For The Victorious".
Justin Hagberg had this to say about the upcoming album: "LONG LIVE HEAVY METAL is the fifth chapter in the book of 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, and we couldn't be more pleased and proud of our new onslaught of Honest Heavy Metal."
Cam Pipes adds: "When a band is releasing a new record, they often speak about it being their most important work or best album to date. Regardless of how clichéd either statement may sound, I think we would say both apply to this album, all of us have a special feeling about this one. We're more committed than ever to the cause of real, honest, no bullshit heavy metal. No trends, no fucking around!"
And if that wasn't enough, we also get word from one of the heaviest of Metal labels, Hells Headbangers, that black/death metal Aussies Denouncement Pyre are about to hit the studio to begin recording on their second full-length titled: "Almighty Arcanum".
If you're into the dark side of metal, you should really check out their well-received "World Cremation".
And closing things out, if you're into punk rock music and everything underground, then you really need to check this out; Imperfect Cinema, has been working on a new documentary film about the legendary compilation series of LPs known as "Bullshit Detector" which was put out by the anarcho-punk band Crass on their own Crass Records label and it is nearing completion; the latest video released is the 1st fine cut which features many legends from the U.K. underground including Stig from Amebix whose song "University Challenged" appeared on "Bullshit Detector" Volume 1! As Stig himself put it recently; "History In the making!" ...yes, indeed!
Damn, my fingers ache..."this is the end, beautiful friend".
