Working with a powerhouse of an affiliation on this album to include (the usual suspects) guitarist Ralph Spight (Victims Family, Freak Accident, Hellworms), guitarist Kimo Ball (Freak Accident, Carneyball Johnson, Mol Triffid, Griddle), Jon Weiss (Sharkbait, Horsey), and previously with bassist Andrew Weiss (Rollins Band,Ween,Butthole Surfers) filling, Jello Biafra continues using "hardcore as political weapon" with the upcoming EP release of " Shock-U-Py" by none other than JELLO BIAFRA AND THE GUANTANAMO SCHOOL OF MEDICINE. Damn, did these guys even need any introduction?
True to the signature sound that has always been present coming from these noteworthy pioneers, this album is nothing less than the rapidfire punch in the political face characterized by Jello's announcement of disdain with current events and puppet figureheads. Although an homage to the now solidified Occupy movement, which is meant to be a sing along that can be played acoustically at protests, it also features the timely spunk of Jello's creative political perspective with the inclusion of the track titled "Barackstar O'Bummer", just in time for the current debates and upcoming elections. Would you have expected anything less? This is purely true to the history and career of this quintet in every bit of its form.
Part of a larger project by the GUANTANAMO SCHOOL OF MEDICINE that will not make its release before the elections, "Shock-U-Py!" finds its way into the markets this month (October 2012) on 10" vinyl, CD and digital formats on, of course, Alternative Tentacles. Boasting 4 amazingly catchy, hook-filled jams, none of which fail to satisfy the listener with the speech that Mr. Biafra has been known to deliver for decades, and never falling short in length, "Shock-U-Py!" is a fantastic addition for any diehard fan, or political dissenter.
