After serious deliberation over the past few days since the contest closed, we reviewed each contestant's entries carefully. It was an extremely, extremely difficult call due to the magnificent jaw dropping talent of everyone who participated
Drum roll please....the winners for "The Riff Rules" Guitar Giveaway are none other than ED from Tennessee, who will be taking home First Prize and Larry from Virginia who just scored himself the Second Prize!
The reason why we chose these two is because of their overall style and ability; both had complete command of his guitar and played music which we could feel as well as hear.
Ed, while keeping his eyes squarely fixed on the camera for the majority of the time, took us through a freestyle range of blues laced riffs, and had us feeling the soul of his playing. It wasn't a single piece per se, more of a freestyle riff jam full of emotion which was born through years of plucking away at the guitar. The twangy notes took us into the smoke laden confines of a Texas Hill Country Road House and we could almost taste the ice cold Lone Star on our lips!
Even though the little dog in the background acted as if he had heard it all before, we were impressed!
Larry's playing was also nothing short of remarkable, it was a passionate piece which had an inspiring and technical blend. What sweetly started off with an almost classical vibe soon rolled into something reminiscent of jazz wonderfully enhanced with a splash of Brazilian Bossa nova style; his finger work had us in awe! We could almost feel the sun shining down on us as waves broke on the beach.
This was an incredibly tough call between the two, both are absolutely outstanding musicians in their own right.
There was a stunning amount of talent represented here among the contestants who played a wide range of genres; grindcore stylings to thrashing head banging, blues to alt rock...it was simply incredible! Huge Thanks to each and every one of you who played their hearts out!
Our deepest gratitude also goes out to HardLuck Kings for participating in this contest with us...an outstanding group of people who make one heck of an outstanding Guitar!
