From the frozen lands of Scandinavia comes the seriously intense duo of Sergeant Salsten (Bass, Guitar, Vocals) and Sadomancer (drums, backing vocals) who form the blackened thrash outfit Deathhammer.
For some of you headbangers who don't know their underground, these guys have put out ten pieces in six years; three demos, an EP (which has the killer title of "Forever Ripping Fast"), three compilations, one split and two LPs. This album is the follow up to 2010's full length "Phantom Knights" and it is some of the best thrash I've come across in recent months! "Onwards To The Pits" is probably one of the most aptly named albums I've heard in a long time; it's sheer velocity is a beckoning call to anyone who wants to mix up it up and celebrate a bit of that ol' Über violence.
It's mind boggling how intense this album is, truly reminiscent of early thrash, especially that coming out of Europe in the 80's; a style which is kind of a mix between Sodom during the "Witching Metal" Demo era and the "Endless Pain" era of Kreator. But, even with the comparison, I think these dudes' tempo still surpasses that of the old guard. For the true thrash connoisseur, it has it all; high pitched vocals, sounding like Mille Petrozza's evil little brother, blistering speed and a pure raw ferocity with the production value to match!
These two guys can certainly hold their own; Sergeant Salsten does some serious ripping leads and Sadomancer ruthlessly works the kit from track one until this thing blows up in my face with the last scorcher "Onward To The Pits". I would have to say, a couple of the tracks which really stand out for me is "Seduced By Flames", one of the finest thrash songs I've EVER heard, and "Lead Us To Hell" with its organ intro and rhythm custom made for bloodying your forehead on the stage! This album is not for wimps!
There is no doubt, we are going to hear a lot more from these Vikings in the future, they simply tear it up!
You can listen to "Voodoo Rites" and "Army of Death" now!
