I reviewed their LP awhile back on ThrashHead, you can read that here; I think the 7" was released first. With only two songs we can't get a lot of depth here but I will tell you that the LP was better. With only 2 songs this record puts itself at the disadvantage of just not having enough material to talk about, especially when one of the songs isn't that good.
A lot of crust bands toss around the term "blackened" meaning they borrow from the Black Metal sound but are not evil Satan worshipers that pretend they live in the snow covered woods. The song 'Defeat' is a "blackened", post-metal affair that wanders through the snow...well, it just wanders. There is no hook or memorable riff and the song just goes on. There is a lot of crust these days that just tries so hard to be epic with mass buildups to a climax that just never happens so it becomes rather anticlimactic.
On the flip side the song 'Fucking Mess' is punkgasmic explosion of quality crusty, dark, hardcore! This is more like what I liked about the LP. A 100 mph pit starting fist-in-the-air rocker with a chorus that everyone to scream along to. I am sure this tune is a fun jam in a dirty, beer drenched, basement or garage. I can see this getting a good reaction at the Blast-O-Mat!
Again, if there was another song or two this record could be really exciting.
